I think those trees on the backround where not 3D models [-X [-X
Is the game running too slow with so many 3D models? If not then make em 3D! If it runs too slowly on some computers make it so you an choose are they 3D or not. ;)

Hey dek

Yeah you are right, but if there is even a little perspective (i mean like the camera isn't only scrolling left to right) then those 2D models will look awful.
sorry for bad english again :S

All the trees are "sprites", and will stay like that, period. And they look pretty friggin' good in motion, so how about waiting to see for yourself before making hasty decisions for yourself?

Sprites?

Postby dekstar » Sun Feb 29, 2004 6:48 pm

Dragst. Arent sprites things you see in old NES games? I just don't like the sound of the trees being on an animated loop guys. Think about it. Long skirmish, and all you see in the background is trees that are on a constant loop of three different animated poses. And what would be worse is if you actually didn't put enough time and effort into it, which i am sure you did. They would all be swaying in unison. So, think about it. 50 trees, all playing the same animation in unison. :S I am sure it will be fine.

"Oh we haven't thought of that".....not. We can do a little better than that, thank you.

If you want a photorealistic virtual environment, watch movies or take photos. Like, with a panorama camera and tape 'em on your walls. Technical features have nothing to do with good games, it's only a bonus if they're well. That's why I'm completely unimpressed stuff like Doom3, since I "know" it's going to be a same game YET once again I've seen n+1 times already. Sure, it looks nice, so what?

Yeah but..

Surely, nice graphics are more pleasing to the eye than 1-bit graphics. And also they can prevent eye strain as much. But i dont even want photo realistic backgrounds, just ones that dont require me to look away while playing. Oh well. Good luck
